Take a minute and look around you. How many products near your vicinity are made out of wood or use wood as a raw material? There is paper, furniture, building materials, organic chemicals, fuelwood and wood pallets. This wide use of wood makes it a valuable renewable resource. We do not want to see such a valuable renewable resource end up in landfills. Especially when we consider that wood products can be recycled or better yet reused. That is the reason why it is encouraging to see a paper by the USDA Forest Service point out that wood pallets are a success story in solid wood recycling.
One of the greenest options is to refurbish or rather remanufacture wood pallets for reuse. There are several companies that can remanufacture wood pallets, such as pallet suppliers, pallet manufacturers and pallet recycling companies. Is your company reusing or recycling their wood pallets? If not they should be, since reuse and recycling help reduce cost and help eliminate waste. Do you want to become a green champion at your workplace? A good start is to find companies near your location that could recycle your used wood pallets. Then click the “submit” button and links to Google Maps will appear listing companies that potentially could recycle your used wood pallets.
